A new children’s book, by the Athenry writer and illustrator Morag Kelly, which deals with the ecology, friendship, sustainability, and the natural cycles of life, was launched recently.
The book, Gordon Goes to Greenieland, and its companion website www.greenieland.ie, was recently launched in The Druid Theatre by the city arts officer James Harrold.
“It is such a delight to come across this book,” he said. “The illustrations are fantastic and the storyline is beautiful. It really can remain in your memory for a very, very, long time.”
Gordon Goes to Greenieland is aimed at those aged five and up. Children can colour in Greenieland characters online or download Morag’s own sketches to colour. The website also gives a preview of the book and there is a section on Greenie’s Seasonal Vegetable Patch.
Adults can interact with like-minded others, subscribe to a free monthly newsletter and purchase the book in paperback or as a pdf download.
A colouring competition, which involves colouring in a character called Henry the Haughty Heron, who will feature in book two, due for release in early 2011, is also under way. Entries are still being accepted up to December 11. The winner will be announced on December 18.
