NUI Galway is determined that progress can continue to be made on four separate building projects which were ‘shut down’ by NAMA.
Last week a receiver was appointed to Michael McNamara & Co, the main contractor for the construction of a number of the buildings at the university. There are now concerns over the future of the 300 sub-contractors working on the site and the future of the developments themselves.
Meetings will also be taking place this week with representatives of the receiver and others. In a statement this week, NUI, Galway said it is “working towards ensuring that progress on the contracts is maintained”.
“While the university’s primary objective is to secure a rapid return to work on the affected sites,” said a spokesperson for the university, “it will remain conscious of the position of sub-contractors in any discussions on the arrangements for such a return to work.”
