A GALWAY parish priest is spearheading set dancing classes as a way of bringing different nationalities together in a spirit of fun and learning.
Set to revive the tradition of community dance, the newly established Parish of the Good Shepherd in Doughiska, Roscam, and Ardaun, is offering Irish set dancing Classes, every Wednesday evening at 7pm, in the Castlegar Complex Community Centre.
Parish Priest Father Martin Glynn believes that central to integrating different nationalities within a community is providing opportunities for both new-comers to an area and established residents to come together, get to know each other, and have a bit of fun.
“There are many different nationalities coming to the classes including Polish, Irish, and African. It is essential that during these challenging economic times that community leaders remain committed to long term integration.
“What better way of doing this than sharing a few reels and jigs through the winter months with our neighbours and friends. We are encouraging as many people from our community and surrounding neighbourhoods to come along,” explains Father Glynn.
Admission to the classes is €5 for adults and €2 for children and all are welcome. The classes are being given by accomplished Irish dancer Gearoid Mulrooney.
