TG4 to broadcast Mick Lally special

The life and work of the late, great Mick Lally will be celebrated on TG4’s primetime arts series Imeall tonight at 10pm and will be repeated on Tuesday at 8pm.

In this special tribute programme, the people closest and most special to Mick recall his life and career, including his mother May Lally who was interviewed for the programme in the family home in the Tourmakeady Gaeltacht in Co Mayo.

The actress Mary McEvoy talks about their friendship behind the scenes of Glenroe and the theatre work they did together.

Garry Hynes, with whom Mick Lally co-founded Druid Theatre, along with Marie Mullen, recalls his contribution to Druid: “Druid was a three-legged stool. We’ve lost one of those legs,” she says on the programme.

Others interviewed for Imeall are the actor and broadcaster Mairtín Jamesie Ó Flatharta, actor Sean McDonagh, and filmmaker Bob Quinn who directed Mick in Poitín, the first feature film to be made as Gaeilge.

Imeall is followed by Scéalta ó Theach na mBocht at 10.30pm, starring Mick Lally as a landlord in Ulster during the Famine
