Leading Cuban musicians to play Kelly’s

FANS OF salsa music in Galway are in for a real treat when a host of Cuban musicians stage a salsa concert upstairs in Kelly’s Bar on Friday November 19 at 11pm.

For the night the musicians will come together as United Salseros, under the direction of Danilo Karell. Salsa is a based on traditional Cuban and Puerto Rican rhythms, and also incorporates jazz and Black music.

The Cuban musicians performing on the night will be singer Evelio Galan who has worked with The Riverside Orchestra, Sabor Cubano, and the Afro Cuban All Stars; Alberto Martinez, who plays lead trumpet for Marc Anthony; double bass player Enrique Pessino, who was musical director for Celia Cruz and Julio Iglesias.

Other Cubans playing on the night are percussionist Frailan Moran and pianist Danilo Karell who has shared the stage with Ruben Gonzalez and Ibrahim Ferrer.

Completing the Latin American line-up, on lead vocal duties, will be Andres Martorell, from Uruguay, who has sung in some of the most important Latin bands (Obligado Records ) in South America.

The band will also feature Irishman Pat Corless on trombone and Italian Stefano Muscovi on lead trumpet.

Tickets are on sale from Kelly’s at €15/12. Capacity for the gig is limited to 200 so early booking is advised.
