Caltra Cuan’s Ladies have reached the All Ireland Junior Ladies’ Championship final after a
a powerful display in Mountbellew on Sunday afternoon.
Caltra had to pull out all the stops to beat Moyle Rovers by 2-10 to 0-11to advance to the championship final where they will meet St Enda’s of Omagh on November 20/21.
It is a fien achievement for Caltra who are the only Galway ladies team remaining in the All Ireland series.
Moyle Rovers, who were physically stronger, opened the scoring in the early stages, but Caltra settled with early points by Orlaith Hannon and Aine Mannion. A super goal from Breda Hanlon, after an excellent work by Orlaith Hannon, put Caltra clear, but Moyle Rovers closed the gap to four points, 1-7 to 0-6 at half time.
In the second half all guns blazed for Moyle Rovers for the first 10 minutes as they reduced the deficit by scoring four points in a row to draw level. With the game in the balance, a brave point from Orlaith Hannon, who was outstanding throughout the match and winner of the player of the match, gave the initiative back to Caltra.
Outstanding defence from the Caltra back line and tremendous work from goalie Lucy Greene kept Moyle at bay. And it was a goal from Emma Naughton that proved decisive. The move started with Aoife Ni Cheallaigh who gave a super pass to Niamh Kilkenny, and running the length of the field, Kilkenny delivering to Emma Naughton who crashed the ball to the back of the net. At this stage Caltra were well on their way to the All-Ireland and closed the match out.
