Could Ireland hold a third referendum on the Lisbon Treaty? It could happen if Germany’s insistence on changes to the Treaty, including countries losing their voting rights, comes to pass.
In such a scenario is the EU a source of help to Ireland during its economic crisis or a Big Brother waiting to punish the nation?
These are some of the ideas that will be explored by Anthony Coughlan, the economist and senior lecturer emeritus in social policy at Trinity College, in a meeting in Galway tonight.
Mr Coughlan will give a public talk entitled The Euro & Ireland’s Economic Crisis in Richardson’s, Eyre Square, at 8pm.
Mr Coughlan is also director of The National Platform EU Research and Information Centre, Ireland, which produces documentation critical of closer European integration from an Irish perspective.
