Road signage is badly needed on the new M6 motorway to ensure drivers and tourists to the area are aware of the turn-off for Oranmore.
This is the view of Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey who is lobbying the National Roads Authority and Galway County Council to improve the signage.
According to Dep Fahey, anyone who travels on an easterly or westerly journey to and from Galway, past the slip road from the Coolough roundabout at Doughiska, would see there are no motorway signs to indicate the turning for Oranmore.
“There are other areas of motorway that have bypassed towns such as Kilbeggan, Tyrrellspass, and Moate where there is additional signage to alert drivers,” he says.
He added that there is anecdotal evidence that B&Bs, etc, in the area are losing business due to the loss of signage.
I believe there should be a review of motorway signage by the Galway County Council,” he said, “and I have requested this be undertaken as a priority.”
