The west of Ireland could be on the verge of producing a whole new wave of young entrepreneurs, according to a fresh survey of third-level students.
The survey of 200 third-level students revealed that three-quarters of them may start their own business within five years of leaving college.
“It was a real eye-opener for us. Fifteen per cent of the students we surveyed answered ‘definitely’, while another 66 per cent said ‘maybe’,” said Liam Horan of interview training organisation SliNuaCareers.com
Sli Nua Careers carried out the survey of students at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology’s Galway campus.
“We suspect this reflects a realisation among students that jobs will be more difficult to come by when they leave college. Already they are preparing themselves for establishing their own independent sources of income,” added Horan.
“Just 19 per cent absolutely ruled out starting their own business.”
Sli Nua Careers provide CV preparation and interview training from their base in Headford, Co. Galway, and carried out the survey at GMIT’s annual Graduate Fair.
