Fahey calls for special taskforce to deal with ‘neighbours from hell’

A special taskforce must be established to deal with ‘neighbours from hell’ according to Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey.

Dep Fahey is calling on the city manager Joe O’Neill, the Garda Chief Superintendent, the HSE, the Department of Social Protection, and the Private Residential Tenancies Board to establish a taskforce to deal with the “growing problem of anti-social and unacceptable behaviour by a limited number of people” living in housing estates throughout the city.

“I am aware of cases involving very loud, disrespectful, behaviour including littering, criminal activity, and bullying,” he said. “This is very intimidating and totally unnecessary.”

Dep Fahey said that to date, the response of the relevant authorities has been “poor and disjointed” and people are “living in sheer misery”.

He has already held meetings with the separate agencies with regards to problems in a number estates but believes a new taskforce comprising representatives from the appropriate agencies can improve the lives of those having to endure ‘neighbours from hell’.

“I want to see the taskforce established with specific protocols and a detailed action plan to deal with people who constantly make life intolerable for their neighbours,” he said. “It is time manners were put on these people who should have respect for their neighbours.”
