Stage Write: New play readings for theatre festival

THE GALWAY Theatre Festival will host its new play readings, Stage Write, at the Town Hall Studio on Sunday October 31.

The two plays are Hooked! by Gillian Grattan, which will be directed by Andrew Flynn and read at 1pm and Dev’s Army by Stuart Lee and directed by Helen Gregg, at 3pm.

Stuart Lee is an Irish playwright living in Oxford. Dev’s Army is a dark comedy set in 1940. Three members of the local security force are on guard in a remote hut by the sea when a mysterious stranger is washed ashore. As they examine the body they begin to wonder if they will find themselves involved in a war closer to neutral Ireland than they would wish.

Hooked! is set in a rural village in the south east of Ireland. Tom and Mary are childhood sweethearts. Lydia, a Dubliner, moves in nearby to an old derelict cottage. Tom takes a shine to her in a big way, much to the disgust of Mary, who sets out to destroy any chance Lydia has of settling in the town.

Tickets are €5. For more information see www.galwaytheatrefestival.com
