Galway group hosts series of sustainable community meetings

A Galway based group hope to set up the first ecological community in the west of Ireland. The Galway Sustainable Community Project (GSCP ) aims to construct a small, purpose-built and environmentally sustainable settlement in the west where residents will produce some of their own food and energy and form a strong, close-knit, community.

The group began hosting a series of public meetings every Thursday this month in and around Galway. Today is the date of the final meeting in The Forge, Moycullen, at 7.30pm to discuss the development, which will have private houses belonging to or rented to families, shared facilities and community buildings where residents can eat, work, and socialise together, with land also devoted to food growing.

The group's website www.sustainablecommunity.ie contains additional information about the project such as the group's vision and activities.
