Canadian author to speak at Charlie Byrne’s

THE CANADIAN author and actor Joel Hynes will be in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop on Wednesday October 27 at 6pm to talk about and sign copies of his novel Down To The Dirt.

Down To The Dirt is a semi-autobiographical and hard-hitting ‘coming of age’ tale set in a remote Irish enclave in Labrador, Newfoundland. It has been described as a Canadian Trainspotting, while Irish author Demot Healy said it was “a great novel that never surrenders to peace of mind”.

Joel Hynes is Canadian-Irish and comes from Calvert, Newfoundland. He is the winner of the Percy Janes First Novel Award and he has also been shortlisted for the Atlantic Book Awards, the Winterset Award, and the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

He has written novels, short stories, and stage plays, and has numerous film, television, and stage roles. His second novel, Right Away Monday, was published in 2007.
