See new stage adaptation of Eugene Onegin

GALWAY’S ANAM Theatre company will bring another classic of Russian literature to the theatre stage with Alexander Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin as part of the Galway Theatre Festival.

At least year’s festival Anam performed Brian Friel’s adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s story The Yalta Game. This time the company has produced a stage adaptation of Pushkin’s verse novel, which was published in series form between 1825 and 1837.

Tired of the glitter and glamour of St Petersburg, Onegin retreats to the country estate he has inherited. There he begins an unlikely friendship with young poet Vladimir Lensky, who introduces him to the family of his fiancee Olga. However when Vladimir’s sister Tatyana falls in love with Onegin, it sets in motion a train of events that will have tragic consequences.

Eugene Onegin will be performed tonight at 8pm and tomorrow at 1pm in the Nuns Island Theatre. Tickets are €12/10 from the Town Hall Theatre on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
