YANN TIERSEN, the Breton composer and musician, best known for his soundtracks for Amélie and Goodbye Lenin! plays the Róisín Dubh on Monday at 9pm.
Tiersen is currently promoting his new album Dust Lane, which was released this week. This is the Breton’s sixth studio album and it took two years to make. It was largely recorded on Tiersen's current home of Ouessant, a small island off the coast of Britanny, with further parts recorded in the southern Philippines and England.
Dust Lane is an album preoccupied with mortality. During its recording, Tiersen lost his mother and a close friend, and the music within embodies what it is to be bereaved. However it is also an album about life, not as something lost, but something to be lived. Says Tiersen: “Not a sad thing, but a colourful thing - an experience sometimes painful, but also joyful.”
