Galway business duo beat recession and take the Subway into town

Two Galway businessmen are overcoming the challenges presented by the recession having come together to take their high street business to the doorsteps of homes and offices throughout the city.

Chris Talbot who owns a SUBWAY store on the Tuam Road and Jonathan Corbett whose SUBWAY store is located in the Westside Business Park have built and launched an on-line ordering and personal delivery service which is already reaping rewards.

Dozens of offices workers and householders across Galway city are now availing of the service which is creating new jobs while also helping the enterprising duo to support up to 10% of the turnover at their respective SUBWAY stores.

“The days of waiting for customers to walk through the door are gone. The SUBWAY chain is such a strong brand that it will always attract customers but to survive in a recession you have to think outside the box and go the extra mile,” Chris explained.

Chris and Jonathan spent a number of months identifying new market opportunities and decided to become creative about servicing that part of the market which is not prepared to make the trip into town when they want something to eat.

“People at home or in offices have two options when they are feeling peckish. Nip down to the local shops or traipse into town. Most go to the local shop in search of an alternative for what they really want, which is in town,” Chris explained.

“We’ve made it easy for customers by introducing an on-line ordering and delivery service. Customers can visit each store on-line, place an order on-line, pay for it on-line and we will then deliver that order to either their home or office,” he added.

Chris is catering for customers in the East side of Galway city through his store’s website www.subwaytuamroad.com while customers in the West side of the city can visit Jonathan’s store on-line at www.subwaywestside.com

“Taking our subs to the market rather than waiting for the market to come to us was one of the best decisions we’ve made this year. Most people would give up on the idea after two weeks but we’ve stuck at it and it is taking off. We are happy and so are our customers,” Chris added.
