Kilcolgan gets set for Bank Holiday antique auction fever

Antique and fine art auctioneer Paul Walsh this week-end holds his most interesting auction of antique fine art in the five years in which he has run The Galway Auction Rooms in Kilcolgan.

It is well known that antiques have been one of the most stable investments over the last 100 years and now is no different than any other time. Mr Walsh who has been involved in the antique & fine Art business all of his life, says that it has always been clever people who have bought antiques.

“They have used them to furnish their homes and if when moving abroad, they cannot bring them with them, they have offered them for sale by public auction and usually obtain a premium to the price they paid originally for them. Antiques are not at all like new furniture, as new furniture once bought have very little value the moment they leave the new furniture showrooms.

“Even in the last five years clients who have moved and bought items at the Galway Auction Rooms, Kilcolgan ,have returned some for sale as they may not have been suitable for their new homes. Not one of them as yet has not achieved at least what they paid and most of them have achieved a premium of the original price they bought them at and that is only in the last five years.

“The auction we are holding Bank Holiday Monday October 25 at 10.30am is definitely the most interesting auction of antiques and art that have come up for sale in our auction rooms in the last five years with definitely in excess of 1,200 lots. We had thought to make this a two-day sale. However the patrons are familiar with these kind of numbers and seem to have no problem sticking it out to the very end to obtain the bargains they have pencilled in on their catalogues.
