Fintan O’Toole to give NUIG talk

Irish Times journalist, Fintan O’Toole, will be the guest of honour at a meeting of the Literary and Debating Society at NUIG on Thursday, October 23.

Mr O’Toole, who is also a theatre critic and author, will be speaking on a subject which is close to his heart, ‘History and journalism and the dangers of a historically illiterate media’. As one of Ireland’s foremost liberal voices, Mr O’Toole has criticised American imperialism, Irish public service and Fianna Fail corruption.

About the visit, Jackie Driscoll, the society’s vice-auditor said that "for anyone who has an interest in history and its implications in modern times, this is an must-see event"

Fintan O'Toole will receive the Literary and Debating Society's President's Medal and will be joining Roddy Doyle, Patrick McCabe and Noam Chomsky among the illustrious recipients of the award.

There will be a chance to ask Fintan O'Toole questions at the end. A reception will follow in Paddy's Bar, Prospect Hill. The talk will take place in the Upper Aula Maxima at 7pm.
