Hillwalkers to hold open meeting

The Cumann Siúl Cois Coiribe Hillwalking Club, based in Galway city, will hold an open meeting in the Menlo Park Hotel this evening (Thursday ). The meeting will begin at 8.30pm and new members are welcome to attend.

Formed in 2000, the club is a mixed group of walkers who climb the lower, medium, and higher peaks in Connemara, Clare, and south Mayo on a fortnightly basis.

The group is always led by a trained leader and members have been climbing as a group for the past 10 years. At the open meeting, new members can chat with existing club members as well as viewing the schedule of walks between now and January 2011.

A slide show of walks, outings, etc, during the year will be presented on the night while a talk will also be given on safety and gear that is required for hillwalking. Membership, including insurance cover with Mountaineering Ireland, costs €50 per annum.
