MISCHIEVOUS DINOSAURS, friendly bears, and curious snails are all to be found in Reminders Of Then, a wonderful and charming new exhibition from Galway artist Morgan O’Brien.
Reminders Of Then is currently on show along the restored old town wall in the Eyre Square Centre up to and including Sunday, as part of the Baboró festival.
Morgan’s 26 water-colour illustrations are inspired by seanfhocail and excerpts from the writings of WB Yeats and James Joyce, and should act as a wonderful introduction to the Irish language and Irish literature for any young child.
Morgan will also host family workshops for ages eight upwards this Saturday and Sunday at 11.30am and 1.30pm in the Eyre Square Centre.
After training as an animator in Dun Laoghaire's Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Morgan decided to specialise in the areas of children’s illustration and design. Since then, he has been working on his own children’s books as well as numerous freelance art and design projects.
Her has exhibited his paintings throughout Ireland, and his work can be found in private collections all over the world. His work draws on the innocence and beauty of childhood life, while taking inspiration from nature, and the magical world around us.
“The illustrations I create are for the child within us all,” says Morgan. “Children’s art is the core inspiration for all of my work and I am in awe of the wonderfully perfect view of the world a young child manages to transfer to paper. I find children’s artwork concise, honest, and overflowing with imagination and creativity.”
