Silent disco for Galway children and teens this Saturday

A silent disco is some of the best fun you can have, but while they are held regularly for adults, children should get to enjoy this unique experience as well.

The Róisín Dubh holds silent discos at the end of every month but for the Baboró International Children’s Festival it will hold two special silent discos - one for children and another for teens - in City Limits, Oranmore this Saturday.

So what is a silent disco? As soon as you enter you will see two DJs at their turntables, see lights flashing, and feel an atmosphere, and loads of people dancing - except there is no music to be heard.

That is because when you go in you will be given headphones and you have to listen to the two DJs through them. There will be a switch so you go back and forth between the two, and once everything gets going you will hear loads of people singing along to songs at the top of their voices, while all around is silence.

It is surreal and tremendous fun and children, teens, and parents are all guaranteed a great time.

The disco for children (aged eight to 11 ) takes place from 5pm to 7pm and the DJs will be the Róisín Dubh’s Gugai and 11-year-old Isabella White. They will play songs from High School Musical and the latest pop hits. Children must be accompanied by their parents.

DJ Ryan Geraghty will provide the DJ set for ages 12 to 15-year-olds and he will play all the latest chart hits. Teenagers can be dropped off at City Limits by the parents for the silent disco at 8pm and collected at 12 midnight.

There will be security on the night. John Boyle at City Limits runs teenage discos at this venue which has a great reputation of a safe and fun night.
