Passenger shelter for tourists to Aran

Minister for Community, Equality, and Gaeltacht Affairs, Pat Carey TD, has announced the approval of a grant of €100,000 to assist the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food to construct a passenger shelter at Ros a Mhíl quay.

The Minister also approved a grant of €23,018 which will be used to assist Galway County Council to build a passenger shelter at Cé an Chalaidh Mhór, Inis Meáin.

Minister Carey said: “Ros a’ Mhíl harbour is one of the country’s main fishing harbours. The quay here is also recognised as an access facility for islanders and for thousands of tourists who travel to the Aran Islands and I am pleased that a shelter will be provided from now on for passengers using ferry or bus services at Ros a’ Mhíl.”

The Minister added that a shelter at Cé an Chalaidh Mhór, Inis Meáin, would now be provided for the islanders and for visitors using the ferry service to travel to the mainland.
