Unsung heroes of club rugby to be rewarded

A new award for club rugby has been established in the province.

Connemara Whiskey, in partnership with Connacht Rugby, has launched the Connacht Club Person of the Year award for a person who has made a significant contribution to the development and advancement of his/her rugby club.

The winner can be involved in any aspect of the club, managing or coaching teams, fundraising, maintaining the club grounds or looking after team kit.

The winner will receive a commemorative award and a hand-signed bottle of Connemara Peated Irish Whiskey. The winner’s club will receive also a sports equipment voucher to the value of €500.

Stephen Teeling, brand manager of Connemara Whiskey, says the company is delighted to to recognise the unsung heroes of the Connacht club rugby scene.

“These club stalwarts are the lifeblood of the game and their selflessness and generosity allow clubs to provide facilities and structures for everyone to enjoy.”

Connacht Rugby CEO, Gerry Kelly, says: “This is a great scheme which rewards and recognises the people who give so much time and energy to the club game throughout the province. I would encourage all clubs to support this initiative.”

The Connemara Whiskey Connacht Club Person of the Year 2010/2011 will be announced in April 2011. Each club can nominate as many members from their club as they wish and entry forms must be submitted before February 1, 2011.
