As expected, the in-form Gary Thornton of Galway City Harriers won the senior men’s event at the 2010 County Galway Cross-Country Championships.
Thornton came in ahead of 47-years-old Gerry Ryan of Craughwell AC who ran very well to take the runner-up spot ahead of Paul McNamara of Athenry AC.
Former junior international Laura Shaughnessy of the host club, who is returning to form, took the honours in the women’s race. She was followed home by Caroline Clancy and Thelma McMahon - also of Loughrea AC.
Held in Bushfield, Loughrea, on Saturday in ideal running conditions, the race attracted greater numbers then last year, especially in the women’s event.
