Job and career opportunities at GMIT fair next week

Employment opportunities, work placements, postgraduate study and volunteering options are to be outlined at a one day careers and recruitment fair in Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT ), Galway, on Tuesday October 12 next.

More than 50 national, international, and local employers have signed up for the annual event, and companies in sectors such as engineering, science, business IT, hospitality, and tourism will have stands at the event with representatives available to answer questions on current opportunities and trends.

The GMIT Careers Fair presents a major opportunity for students, graduates, and members of the public to engage with employers and find out about work placements, internships, and/or short-term contracts and project work.

Bridie Killoran, GMIT careers office, says that despite the current economic situation and resultant job losses, there are still career options and some employment opportunities. “This fair is a fantastic opportunity to network with various organisations. As a job seeker it is really beneficial for students and graduates to have a name or an email address when contacting companies seeking employment. It is also so important to have basic knowledge of a company’s operations and to have an understanding of the future direction of an organisation and more importantly how you can fit into it.”

Some of the companies signed up for the event include Abbott, Allergan, Ericsson, CSN Stores, Goodman Medical, HID Gobal, KPMG, Lidl, Whirlpool, Lionbridge, Medtronic, The Fulbright Commission, Train 2 Teach UK, Irish Universities, all major accountancy bodies, and Washington Ireland Programme.
