Dr Eva Orsmond, who has become a household name, is probably best known for her role as RTE’s hugely popular Operation Transformation diet and nutrition expert. The programme sees a group of people put on a rigid diet and exercise programme in a bid to lose weight. But behind the scenes, Dr Eva’s battle to re-educate people on health fitness is changing hundreds of people’s lives every day.
Orsmond Clinics has now opened its sixth clinic in Newbridge. Dr Eva believes that many medical conditions can be cured through lifestyle change — a major part of which is weight reduction. “We have a variety of calorie controlled diet plans that you can choose from,” she explained. “During your 12-week programme you can change between these diets plans, there are no set rules, but we will guide you along the way to help you achieve your goal. You can achieve a 10 per cent weight loss with us, in either six or 12 weeks depending on the intensity of your diet plan.”
Sisters Catherine, Joanne, and Rebecca Cannon together have lost more than 11 stone since they first attended Orsmond Clinics and turned their lives around. They had been struggling with their weight for many years. Ruth Cannon, the girls’ mother, became very concerned for her daughters’ health. She had tried to get help from a weight loss clinic for her daughter Joanne; but after being on the list for over a year she was turned away, because she was not big enough. “We still don’t understand why,” she said. “She was 16 stone and only 17. That should have been heavy enough for her to get help but the system failed her.”
At just 25 years, Catherine was on medication for both high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and Joanne had been taking medication for high blood pressure. It was when Joanne’s GP prescribed high cholesterol tablets for Joanne that Ruth Cannon said enough is enough. “I literally thought I am killing these children,” she recalled. For the Cannon family, the no-nonsense doc was the answer to their prayers.
Apart from the medical risks, all three girls had serious confidence issues and shopping for clothes became a nightmare. “People can be cruel, I had nasty things shouted at me as I walked down the street,” Catherine recalled. After trying every method they could think of, Ruth Cannon booked an appointment for her daughters with Dr Eva. She immediately put them on a calorie controlled plan, which was initially quite strict and gave the girls a good kickstart. The girls were surprised how quickly they adapted to a new diet plan and hunger was not an issue.
After losing the weight, all the girls are much more confident, buying clothes to fit has become a problem of the past. Rebecca is now down seven sizes in her school skirt, from an astonishing 44” to 28”. She can now borrow and swap clothes with her friends. Their energy levels are up, and they have even completed a mini marathon. They are no longer on medication and their regular visits to their GP are now in the past. The girls put their success down to the Orsmond Clinic.
