St James, the current county minor champions, will take on Corofin in the county final this Sunday at 3.45pm in Pearse Stadium.
The city side has been doing very well at this grade over the past few years and annexed the title in 2006, 2007 and last season (beating Corofin in the final ).
The only blip in those four years was in 2008 when Corofin beat Killanin in the final.
Terry O’Regan is the St James’ manager, alongside John Byrne and Dara Freyne, and he is hoping for an exciting and open game of football.
“Both sides play very high quality attacking football and we should have a really good contest on Sunday. Both teams have fine players in attack and defence and we are really looking forward to the challenge Corofin will pose.
“We won last year’s final and no doubt they will be looking for revenge for that defeat, so we will have to be at our very best to win.”
O’Regan will look to big displays from team captain and centre-back Adam Lee, Barry McEntee, Aaron Connolly at midfield, and Liam Finnerty and Eoghan O’Regan up front.
Former All-Ireland minor winner with Galway in 1976, Ollie Burke, is in charge of the Corofin minors this year, alongside selectors PJ Langan, Martin Fleming and Gabriel Mannion.
Corofin side had a solid win over Ballinasloe in the semi-final when wing-forward Ian Burke scored two goals in the second half to help them advance.
Others who will be keen to produce big displays on Sunday are Conor Keady at full-back, young Conor Cunningham, who is still u-16, Daniel Collins, Oisín Mannion and midfielders Daithí Burke and Pakie Coen.
*The B minor final between Clifden and Williamstown takes place at 2pm in Pearse Stadium on Sunday.
Junior A and B football finals
This Saturday in Tuam Stadium the Junior A and Junior B titles are down for decision.
In the A final city side Salthill-Knocknacarra will face Ballinasloe at 4.45pm.
That game is preceded by the B final between Tuam Stars and Salthill-Knocknacarra at 3pm.
