English folk legends for The Crane

FORMER MEMBERS of Pentangle, as well as Beverly Martyn and Mary Coughlan are part of a very exciting line-up of gigs in The Crane Bar, Sea Road, in the coming weeks.

Former Pentangle guitarist John Renbourne and vocalist Jacqui McShee, play next Wednesday at 9pm. Through albums such as The Pentangle (1967 ) and Basket Of Light (1968 ), the group developed an innovative fusion of jazz and folk (before Van Morrison recorded Astral Weeks, an album tends to get all the credit for the jazz/folk fusion! ).

Renbourne and McShee are stalwarts of the English folk scene and this is a rare chance to see two legends in an intimate setting.

Another English folk great is Beverley Martyn and she will play on Thursday 14 at 9pm. She is best known for the albums she made in 1970 with her former husband, the late John Martyn, Stormbringer! and The Road To Ruin. On Saturday 16 Charis re-form for a show.

After that the line-up is dominated by three of Irish music’s leading ladies with Eleanor McEvoy Thursday 28 at 9pm; Maria Doyle Kennedy on Saturday November 13 at 6.30pm; and Mary Coughlan on Thursday November 18 at 9pm.
