Galway triathlon athletes toasted Arthur’s Day with an unusual event on Thursday.
Forty-one members took part in a 1.9k long swim from Grattan Beach to Blackrock wearing black wet-suits and white swim hats to honour the Guinness celebration.
This was the first time the club ran this event and, according to club chairperson Padraic Moran, it proved a great success.
“We were delighted with the turn-out for the event. It was such a big achievement especially for those who just started distance swimming in the sea this season.
“The weather was perfect for the swim which made it all the more enjoyable. We will definitely make this a yearly event on our race calendar.”
