A Galway-based company which produced the world’s first Irish speaking teddy bear has won a top award in the Electronic toy category at the Practical Pre-school awards in the UK.
BB is the brainchild of new children’s toy company Bábógbaby Limited which is based in Moycullen, Co Galway. BB inventor Adrian Devane set up the company in early 2010 to provide tools and toys for toddlers, children, and parents to learn those first cúpla focail. This cuddly and colourful teddy bear, which teaches toddlers and children 33 words in Irish, has certainly proven a hit and its potential has certainly been noted outside of Ireland.
Attending the award ceremony, which was held in London recently, a proud Mr Devane said that he was “just delighted”.
“For a UK organisation to recognise the quality and practicality of our Irish version of BB is just fantastic. It’s like a movie getting five stars or a student getting an A+. They loved it. It opens it up now to such a larger market. There is so much potential for an English speaking version of the bear,” said Mr Devane, who added that Bábógbaby have plans to release a range of Irish speaking products over the next year.
