Pedestrian dies in Tuam road tragedy

A man lost his life when he was struck by a car in Tuam in the early hours of Sunday.

Gerry Fahy (53 ) died instantly when he was hit by a passing motorist while crossing the Galway road at Farranamartin at around 4.35am on Sunday. Mr Fahy, a resident of Lucan in Co Dublin who was originally from Belclare, had been in Tuam visiting family for the weekend when the tragedy occurred.

Mr Fahy, a married father of two young children, was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor. His body was taken to UHG for a post mortem examination. Mr Fahy will be buried in Lucan this morning (Thursday ).

The driver of the car, who was not injured, was treated for shock following the accident.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Tuam Garda station at (093 ) 70840.
