Rethink needed on Cregmore Crossroads safety measures says Grealish

Plans to stagger traffic at the junction on the Cregmore crossroads will “have no impact” on car speeds and will not make the crossroads any safer for pedestrians.

This is the view of Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish who is calling on the Galway County Council to rethink its plans to deal with traffic in the area.

Dep Grealish is calling for traffic calming measures to be put in place on all four approach roads, a call that is also echoed by local residents and Cregmore school.

“They believe that this is the only solution to improve safety for children, parents, and commuters who use this road on a regular basis,” said Dep Grealish. “If traffic calming measures are not put in place on all four approach roads, it will only be a matter of time before another serious accident or fatality occurs.”

Dep Grealish has contacted the NRA, which is providing funding for the safety works and the council, asking that the proposals be reconsidered.
