The Oyster Pearl competition brings glamour and beauty to the Galway International Oyster Festival each year, and the glamour stakes have been raised even further this year with Fallers Jewellers offering a prize fund worth €5,000 for the Fallers Best Dressed Lady competition.
The festival, which runs from September 22 to 26, is hailed as the final party of the summer season and attracts visitors from all over the world. The eclectic mix of entertainment on offer means that this unique festival has something to suit every age. From the informal free street party to a black tie ball, it is an experience to be embraced and savoured.
Fallers Jewellers, trading since 1879, is one of the oldest and best known jewellery shops in Ireland. Owner Paul Faller is a staunch supporter of the oyster festival. “It is the highlight of my social calendar, but it is also an extremely important event for showcasing Galway city to an international audience,” he said.
This year the Saturday afternoon event on September 25 is expected to be the highlight of the festival. The afternoon’s entertainment includes oyster tasting, the Guinness World Oyster Opening Championship, music from The Blues Brothers, and the Fallers Best Dressed Lady Competition, with a prize of a diamond pendant worth €4,000 and €1,000 cash from Fallers Jewellers on offer. The afternoon will finish with a party in Galway’s Latin Quarter.
John Faller, representing the fifth generation of the well-known Galway family to work in the famous jewellers on Williamsgate Street, is following in his father’s footsteps and is eager to promote the festival to a younger audience. “I have been very involved in the Galway International Oyster Festival for the past three years,” he said. “It is a festival where fun is the number one priority and the atmosphere is always electric. I am delighted that Fallers Jewellers are sponsoring the Best Dressed Lady Competition, as accessories and jewellery are often what turns the unbeatable little black dress into a fabulous outfit.”
