Mary McPartlan to make Town Hall debut

THE GREAT Mary McPartlan is no stranger to Galway or its vibrant trad/folk scene, but she has never before graced the stage of the Town Hall Theatre.

That will all change next Wednesday at 8.30pm when Mary makes her debut with a solo show at the venue. Joining Mary on the night will be Rick Epping (harmonica and concertina ), Aiden Brennan (guitar and vocals ), and Eddie Lynch (piano and Hammond organ ). On backing vocals will be Ruth Dillon and Bernie O’Mahony.

Mary has released two highly acclaimed albums The Holland Handkerchief, which was also voted Number 1 Folk Album by the prestigious British music magazine MOJO in 2005. The follow-up Petticoat Loose was released in 2008 and made MOJO’s Top Ten Folk Albums of 2008.

Mary regularly tours in Ireland, Britain, and Europe and also gives specialist workshops in traditional music and song. She is also the academic co-ordinator at the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic studies at NUI, Galway. She is the creative director for the university’s Arts in Action programme.
