Tender chosen for major new Gort to Tuam motorway

The Ban Balfour Beatty Consortium has been chosen as the preferred tender for the Gort to Tuam PPP motorway. Construction will begin in the New Year for completion by the end of 2014.

The M17/M18 Gort to Tuam PPP motorway will be 57kms long - 53km motorway and 4km Tuam Bypass - and will connect to the M6 motorway east of Oranmore

It will provides a bypass of Tuam at the northern end as well as Ardrahan, Kilcolgan and Clarinbridge in the south.

According to Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Frank Fahey it is also envisaged that the road will act as bypass of Claregalway

“The new motorway will provide a vital piece of infrastructure to the western region and open it up to new inward investment,” he said. “Much traffic congestion will be eased in many towns, especially those of Claregalway, Ardrahan, Kilcolgan, and Clarinbridge.”

Dep Fahey also said the new road will also allow for greater connectivity to the southern region, with the Gort to Crusheen motorway due to be opened later next month.
