Free public astronomy event in Salthill

The first International Observe the Moon Night takes place this Saturday and will be an opportunity for the public to study our near celestial neighbour.

The Galway Astronomy Club will hold this free fun event at Salthill carpark starting at 9pm (weather permitting ).

Some of the largest amateur telescopes in Galway will be trained on the lunar surface, giving unprecedented views of it many features - lava plains, mountains, and craters, including one named after Co Galway Astronomer John Birmingham (1816 - 1884 ). Those with telescopes are welcome to bring them along.

Following on from this and as part of World Space week, the club is inviting the public to a special talk on the quest for life in the universe being held at the Westwood House Hotel on October 4.
