Kickboxing champs headline Gort fight night

Two of Ireland’s top fighters who hail from Gort will headline an exciting 15-bout kickboxing card in their home town on Saturday evening.

Eric Daly, All Ireland kickboxing champion, is moving up to welterweight to take on Irish No 1 Chris Coyle from Donegal, while Cathal Manning,the current IKF European super middleweight kickboxing champion, is changing rule styles to take on tough Dubliner Andy Myres in a Full K-1 Rules contest.

At last year’s event Daly knocked out the English champion Shaun Hurdman in the third round of a scheduled five rounder to add the IKF 5 Nations super lightweight title to his impressive CV. He ad been due to defend his title, but British champion Howard Hogg from Wales was unavailable.

Manning’s last K-1 rules fight ended in the first round when he knocked out Ireland’s top MMA fighter Myles Price from Kilkenny with a spectacular head kick.

The Gort show, which starts at 7pm, boasts 13 fights on the undercard, featuring fighters from Galway, Waterford, Kilkenny, Thurles, Tralee, Donegal, Dungarvan, Dublin, Ennis and Athlone.
