Discover the wines of South Australia

Wine Australia will host an event exploring the wines of South Australia in Galway City Museum this evening. Entitled It’s a long Way from Clare to here, the evening sets out to tell the story of one of Australia’s most famous wine regions, the Clare Valley in South Australia.

Located about two hours’ drive north of Adelaide in South Australia, the valley has a wine making history that goes back to the 1840s, and with a name like the Clare Valley, the region obviously has strong Irish links. It was named by Edward Gleeson (known as the King of the Clare ) who left Sixmilebridge in Co Clare in 1850.

Now home to about 40 small to medium size wine companies (most family owned ), not only is it one of Australia’s prettiest wine regions, it is also producing some stunning wines. The evening will offer a chance to taste many of these wines and learn more about Australia’s ‘Irish’ wine region.

The event will take place in Café 8, Galway City Museum, from 6.45p to 8.45pm. Tasty treats will also be served.

Leading the tour of the valley this evening will be Tim Adams, owner and winemaker of Tim Adams Wines. He has more than 30 years’ experience growing and making wine in the valley. For more information on Tim Adams and his wines visit www.timadamswines.com.au The cost of the evening is €20 per person.
