Manuela Foundation funding aids Galway rape crisis centre

The Galway Rape Crisis Centre and the Manuela Riedo Foundation are continuing their commitment to work together on the forth coming fund raising concert, A Night for Manuela to be held in the Salthill Hotel on October 8.

The Galway Rape Crisis Centre views the funding it received from last year’s event through the foundation as critical in allowing the GRCC to continue to drive its vital education and prevention programmes. Manuela Riedo was a 17-year-old student from a small village near Basel in Switzerland whose life was taken in tragic circumstances on a visit to Galway city in October 2007.

Director Aoibheann McCann, at a recent meeting with representatives of the foundation, gave feedback on the teen support groups and education workshops for schools which the GRCC has run to date this year with the funding.

Both the Rape Crisis Centre in Galway and the foundation set up in Manuela Riedo’s memory view continuing education and preventative programmes as vital and core to the hopes and goals of the foundations directors and primary promoters, Hans Peter and Arlette Riedo, the Swiss parents of the murdered teenager.
