Jerry Dammers, Daedelus, and more @ Stress!!

JERRY DAMMERS, the driving force behind 2-Tone and The Specials, is coming to play Stress!! next week as is Daddy Kev, Daedelus, Milosh, and Chequerboard.

Daedelus plays Stress!! at De Burgo’s on Thursday October 23 and you have already heard his song ‘Fair Weather Friends’ which is the theme song used on the new O2 ads. He is sure to cuts a sartorial, as well as musical dash, with his Victorian dandy image.

Daedelus (aka Alfred Darlington ), began DJing in 1999 and in 2003 he was encouraged by friends to test out an early prototype of the Monome box - a non-traditional electronic instrument which allows for improvisation.

Since then Daedelus has continued to use the Monome, bringing a genuine liveness to the sometimes static world of performed electronic/dance music. Support is from Daddy Kev.

Montreal electro downtempo specialist Milosh will make his Galway debut at Stress!! on Tuesday October 21.

Mike Milosh started playing cello at the age of three and it has left him with “an intense attraction to songs that are sad, soft, and beautiful”. He studied music in university and played in many different kinds of bands, before deciding that solo was the best path to follow.

“I try to capture the moments that are my life in the songs that I create,” he says. “I wrap them up in sounds that I think are cool and fit what I am trying to say.”

Support is from Dublin guitarist, producer, and graphic artist, Chequerboard.

Jerry Dammers will play a DJ set at Stress!! on Bank Holiday Sunday October 26. In Coventry in 1979, Dammers founded the 2-Tone label which unleashed ska across Britain (and Ireland ). He was also the main songwriter and leader of the great British Ska band The Specials, who are best known for the songs ‘Too Much Too Young’ ang ‘Ghost Town’.
