JobFit Roadshow to hit Galway next week

The JobFit Roadshow, part of aninitiative to support people to upskill or retrain and get a job or move on to further education or training, is coming to the Galway Shopping Centre on Friday September 10, from 10am to 3pm. From its state-of-the-art Mobile Training Unit, JobFit is offering a free job search clinic, where friendly staff will be on hand to offer advice, guidance and support to people in their quest to find employment.

Thanks to the support of the Galway Shopping Centre in offering a convenient location, all are welcome to visit the Mobile Training Unit and find out how JobFit can help them. It will be possible to register for the JobFit programme – a 13-week personalised programme for unemployed people offering free skills training, free job search support and free work placements with local employers.

JobFit is available to people who have been receiving benefits for a minimum of three months who are qualified up to Junior Certificate level. The programme currently operates out of the IDA Business Park, Dangan in Galway, and places are available immediately. Go along and see what JobFit has to offer you!

JobFit is funded by the Labour Market Activation Fund of the Department of Education and Skills, and delivered by TBG Learning in partnership with National Learning Network.

Catherine Bracken is the centre manager at the Galway JobFit centre. “At JobFit, our sole aim is to support people who may have left education early, or been let go from their jobs, to take the next step towards employment, with our help. JobFit is available to people who are educated up to Junior Cert level and will provide them with the training, qualifications and skills that they need to get noticed.

“We completely understand the challenges which people face in looking for employment and how endless applications and knocking on doors can leave people zapped of self-confidence and wondering if they will ever find a job. We want to change that by opening doors to employment and giving people more choices in life. JobFit is here to help people focus their energies and to re-build their sense of self-esteem, to identify the opportunities most suitable to them and to maximise their chances of success.

“We do this by helping people to develop their skills, providing worthwhile on-the-job experience, and by giving them tips and advice in finding the right job and making their job applications stand out. Essentially, it’s about getting job-fit. And for those participants who move onto employment, we will continue to give them on-the-job support for up to three months.

“Among the courses which may be offered as part of the programme are information technology skills, health and social care, consumer awareness, manual handling, workplace safety and food hygiene. On successful completion, participants can achieve FETAC level 3 preparation for work and level 3 Work Orientation qualifications. JobFit participants who qualify for a social welfare payment may qualify to retain that benefit while on the programme, and so I would encourage people to get in touch with us now if they are interested, as the programme is available until the end of December and places are limited.”

In addition to its centre in Galway, the JobFit programme is available in other locations across Ireland – Smithfield, Tallaght, Blanchardstown, Kilkenny, Dundalk, Cork, Waterford, Limerick and Athlone.
