Nick Danziger, the British documentary maker, whose programmes on Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Libya, have been shown on Channel 4, BBC, and the Discovery Channel, will be in Galway this weekend.
Mr Danziger, who is widely respected as a photographer and a leading practitioner of human rights documentary making, will be the programme director for the Summer School in Cinema, Human Rights and Advocacy from The Huston School of Digital Media in NUI, Galway.
The summer school stars tomorrow and runs until Sunday. It will offer workshops, seminars, and film screenings with established film-makers and academics. There will be information on human rights, how to raise awareness of human rights on camera, and how to develop and pitch these ideas.
The associate programme director is Claudia Modonesi, an expert in the organisation and management of cultural events related to human rights. She will facilitate a workshop for the development of participants’ personal projects.
Other facilitators will include Prof William Schabas, director of the Irish Centre for Human Rights; Rod Stoneman, director of the Huston School of Film & Digital Media; Prof Koen De Feyter, lecturer in international law, University of Antwerp; Christopher Herd, independent documentary maker in Britain; Dr Emma Sandon, lecturer in film and television, Birkbeck, University of London; and Violeta Krasnic, Europe & Central Asia programme co-ordinator for international human rights organisation Witness.
A certificate will be awarded to participants who attend 80 per cent of the summer school sessions and complete an essay or project in a satisfactory way.
