The third Galway Theatre Festival returns from October 25 to 31 and this year’s programme will be officially launched in Massimo, Sea Road, on Monday September 20 at 6pm.
The festival image/logo has this year been designed by Galway artist Shane O’Connor. It depicts the Nuns Island Theatre at night, with colourful paving outside, and a tall, thin, alien, waiting at the gates. It is imaginative, humorous, and is characteristic of Mr O’Connor’s love of quirkiness and bright colours.
Mr O’Connor lives close to the Nuns Island Theatre, which is also the main location for all plays at the festival, as well as Galway Youth Theatre, and productions for Cúirt, the Galway Arts Festival and Baboró, exhibitions for TULCA, and occasional concerts.
“The theatre got a new lease of life when it was renovated in 2003,” said Mr O’Connor. “It’s a great building and I’m really happy to see it being put to such good use. The street comes to life whenever the theatre hosts an event.”
This year Galway Theatre Festival is continuing its ‘Producer Initiative’ for which limited editions of Shane O’Connor’s print will be made available. For €100 producers receive two complimentary tickets to a GTF show of their choice, priority booking for all productions, invitations to festival events, acknowledgement on all festival material, and a copy of this year’s festival print.
