Motorbike run this weekend in aid of local children’s cancer charity

Motorcyclists will take to the roads of Galway and Mayo this weekend to raise funds for Galway-based children’s cancer charity CD’s Helping Hands.

The sponsored event will start from the Galway Shopping Centre car park at 10.30am on Saturday, with participants travelling to Castlebar and back for this worthy cause. Registration will take place at the car park from 9.30am on the day of the event.

The route will take the riders from Galway to Westport, Castlebar, Charlestown (lunch stop ), and on to Claremorris and Tuam before heading back to Galway around 4.30pm.

The event has been created by the Mont Blanc 2011 team of Paul Grant, Dave Donnelly, Declan Grant, and Paul Mceananey, who are organising a host of events throughout 2010 and 2011 leading up to their climb of Mont Blanc next summer to raise much needed funds for the charity. CD’s Helping Hands is a Galway based charity which provide support services for the families of children from the west of Ireland who are affected by cancer. The charity was set up in 2006 and is the only dedicated charity for children suffering from cancer in the country. At any given time up to 150 children along the western seaboard of Ireland are suffering from this devastating disease, leaving families shattered and at a loss as to how to cope.

Fundraising events such as the charity motorbike run are vital to the survival of the charity and all support, no matter how small, is appreciated.
