All Ireland title beckons for Gort kickboxer

Fighters from the Black Dragon Kickboxing Club in Galway are counting down to the "Midsummer Madness" full contact kickboxing tournament in the Menlo Park Hotel on Sunday.

The main event will see Gort man Eric Daly move up a weight and try to add the IKF All Ireland light welterweight belt to his impressive CV when he takes on Waterford’s Sean Barrett for the recently vacated title.

Well-known Galway fighter and current IKF European supermiddleweight champion Cathal Manning from Rahoon will also take to the ring when he takes on 6’ 5” Toby Belmuller from Cork in a four-rounder.

The impressive undercard will see Claregalway’s Martin Murray make his debut against Waterford’s Bobby Shanahan, while Valerie Hamilton from Bohermore also debuts against Tralee’s Sarah Mannix. White Collar Boxer Chris Noone from Claregalway will have his first kickboxing contest with Kilkennyman Dermot O' Rourke, Gary Giles, also from Claregalway and just back from an impressive win in Wales, will take on Waterford’s Ian Condon, while Ezra Nolan from Clarenbrige will take on Waterford hard man Sean O' Neill in an IKF Eliminator contest with the winner fighting for the IKF All Ireland middleweight belt in Kilkenny in September,

Moycullen’s Barry Haddock faces Kilkenny MMA fighter Dan Cullen; Shane Creaven from Turloughmor takes on tough Russian fighter Vitali Parahhin, who is based in Waterford; and Feidhlim Dunne from Kinvara will face off with Joshua Ferry from Dungannon.

Oughterard’s Bryan Merrigan faces Chris Coyle from Donegal, and Junior IKF All Ireland champion Charlie Ward from Castlepark will share the ring with Stewart Ferry from Dungannon.

The doors open to the public at 4pm with the first fight scheduled for 4.30pm.
