Creative writing classes at GAC

GALWAY WRITERS Kevin Higgins and Susan Millar DuMars will hold creative writing classes in the Galway Arts Centre next month.

Susan will host a creative writing class for beginners and continuing creative writing students in poetry or fiction. Students will spend their week responding to writing exercises designed to inspire, rather than inhibit. The classes start on Monday September 20 at 2pm.

Susan is the author of the short story collection American Girls (Lapwing Press, 2007 ) and two collection of poetry, Big Pink Umbrella (2008 ) and Dreams For Breakfast (2009 ), both with Salmon Poetry.

Kevin will host three poetry workshops. They take place on Tuesdays from 7pm to 8.30pm (starting September 21 ); on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3.30pm (from September 22 ), and on Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm (from September 23 ). Each workshop will run for 10 weeks.

The Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon workshops are open to beginners and those who have been writing for some time. The Thursday workshop is for those who have participated in poetry workshops before or had poems published in magazines.

Kevin is the author of three poetry collections, The Boy With No Face, Time Gentlemen, Please, and Frightening New Furniture, all published by Salmon.
