“Absolute madness” is how Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish has characterised plans for a new €900 motor tax for people who use their work vehicles for social and domestic use.
Dep Grealish, who has also criticised the proposal as “ludicrous”, is calling on the Minister for the Environment John Gormley to scrap the plans. He feels the tax will mostly affect tradespeople in the construction sector.
“This tax will put even more pressure on cash strapped individuals and families, already struggling to meet mortgages and household bills,” he said.
“A tax on private use of commercial vehicles only serves to push people further into financial difficulty and does not consider the serious situation many families are currently in. It’s time to give people some fair play and scrap this tax.”
