Carnmore-based mechanical engineer Gerry Hanley was the toast of the Tullamore show last week when a heat-loss prevention device he invented scooped a prize at the National Inventions Competition.
The device, the Hanno Heatmaster, was first launched at the Tullamore Show and can be fitted to your existing oil boiler and aims to harness the heat loss from the waste emissions. The average flue gas temperature in a domestic oil boiler is 260 degrees c. With the Hanno Heatmaster system fitted, it will reduce your flue gas temperature to as low as 50 degrees celsius.
It is designed to harvest the heat from the waste gases that would normally disperse through the chimney flue into the atmosphere, resulting in heat loss and pollution.
Tests have shown that the average five to 10 year old boiler is 80 per cent efficient. When Hanno Heatmaster is fitted, it can raise your efficiency rating to a staggering 98 per cent
.Gerry scooped a prize at the National Inventions Competition in Tullamore last week, following on from previous successes with other inventions.
In 2009, he won first and third prizes for the Hanno Easy Lift briquette handle and the Hanno Strapwinder which is used by truckers to roll up their ratchet straps.
These products are currently being sold throughout Ireland and being exported as far away as NewZealand. Gerry designs and manufactures his own products in Carnmore.
The Hanno Strapwinder has taken Gerry and his wife Bernie to the Dragons Den in 2009 and the JFVAwards in 2008 where he also received an award.

Hanley Precision Engineering commenced business in 1989 servicing Intel Ireland and companies such as Irish Cone and Wafer, Elmores Electrical, Hewlett Packard to say but a few. The forte of the company was to manufacture engineering jigs and fixtures.
In the year 2000 Hanno relocated to Carnmore in Galway to service Pharmaceutical Medical and Automotive companies such as Valeo and JFC manufacturing in Tuam, also Cambridge Diagnostics and Brivant in Galway City.
Over the years Hanno has been involved in the development of tools and products for their client base. With substantial development skills and the aid of CAD/CAM technology Hanno diversified in the design and manufacture of their own range of plastic-based products. As a result Hanno Plastics came into being.
Hanno also design and manufacture injection mould tooling in house using solid modelling software CAD/CAM and 3D CNC machining capabilities.
