Galway camogie must do it all again

The Galway senior camogie team must do it all again this Sunday in Thurles at 3.30pm when they take on Cork in the replay of the All-Ireland semi-final.

The sides produced a classis encounter last weekend in Nowlan Park, ending 3-13 to Galway and 1-17 to Cork, with the Rebels very fortunate to snatch a replay with two late frees from Síle Burns.

Referee Karl O’Brien had a part to play too when he inexplicably declined to award a free to Galway on the Cork 20m line deep in injury time when it appeared Therese Maher had been bundled over.

The unerring Aislinn Connolly would not have missed from that range and the Tribeswomen would have advanced.

Instead they have to dust themselves down and try to produce another top-class display to see off the Cork women.

Galway had fine displays last weekend from Sandra Tannian at corner back, the brilliant Veronica Curtin, who shot 2-2 from full-forward, Caroline Murray, Breda Hanney, Orla Kilkenny, Tara Rutledge, and goal-keeper Susan Earner.

The senior game is to be preceded by the replay of the minor tie between Galway and Clare at 1.30pm.
