Relive the Telstar days for a good cause next week

A Telstar Reunion Dance to raise funds for Western Alzheimer’s will take place in the Galway Rowing Club, Woodquay, on Saturday August 28.

The event, which begins at 10pm and continues until 1am, will feature ‘60s and ‘70s music provided by a DJ, and the admission is €10. Tickets can be purchased at the Western Alzheimer’s office in Eglinton Street (over the Cellar Bar ), at College Road Florists, or at the door on the night.

Telstar was a youth club which was formed in 1968 and finished up around 1975. The clubhouse was a single storey building located at the Holy Family grounds in Renmore and the club was run by a committee of the Brothers of Charity and a number of local people. The club catered for mostly teenagers (boys and girls ) who would play games such as table tennis or basketball. The club also held social events at weekends where local bands such as Wild Breed and Spoonful played.

This reunion dance is being organised by past members of Telstar Youth Club with the help of the Galway office of Western Alzheimer’s. Past members or anyone who used to attend the weekend social nights are asked to come to this fundraising dance and help support a worthy cause. All proceeds will go directly to Western Alzheimer’s.
